Significance of the logo for Paraclete Images LLC

The word often used in the New Testament – Christian Scriptures – for the Spirit of God, or Holy Spirit, is the Greek word paraclete. This is a compound word, formed by the prefix para- and the verb kleitos. Para- means to be alongside something (think of parallel lines) and kleitos means “to be called”. The Holy Spirit, therefore, is the One that “comes alongside”. It is also why, in talking about the sending of the Holy Spirit to be with his disciples, Jesus said in the gospel of John, “I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have said to you.” (John 14:25,26 (NRSVue)) This parakleitos, this Advocate, Comforter, Counselor is present with us to teach and inform us.

The image of Paraclete Images LLC draws on the Scriptural images of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is seen as a dove, descending upon Jesus from God at his own baptism, which is why there is the symbolism of water and the star above. In the tail feathers of this dove are tongues of flame, akin to those flames that were seen alighting on the heads of Jesus’s followers on the day of Pentecost, for as the followers of Jesus, we are baptized with the Holy Spirit, as well. Jesus, prior to his Ascension, said to the disciples, “After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait there for the promise of the Father. “This,” he said, “is what you have heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”” (Acts 1:3-5 (NRSVue)) Not ten days later, this promise came to pass.
